Yes, the EdgeRouter X SFP works with Swisscom fibre. Users report successful use with Swisscom FTTH connections. Regarding the second question: The router can also be used without active routing functions. You can configure it as a pure bridge device to forward the Public IP from Swisscom directly to your pfSense firewall. The SFP port terminates the fibre optic connection and you can forward the connection to pfSense via one of the five RJ45 ports. This means the device works just like a switch with an SFP port, without you having to use the routing functions.

Is this device compatible with Wireguard?

Helpful answer
The device supports the use of WireGuard, but the setup is not pre-installed by default and requires manual configuration via the command line. Users report that it is possible to install WireGuard on the router and operate it as a VPN client or server, whereby corresponding configuration steps are required. For the EdgeRouter X SFP, there are instructions and examples on how to set up WireGuard, but this is not integrated as a plug-and-play function.

The best thing is to ask your provider (Sunrise/Yallo) directly what their requirements are. If you have received the necessary information from Sunrise and still have questions, please contact our customer service: https://helpcenter.digitec.ch/hc...

Unfortunately, we are waiting for an update from the supplier on this item, as they are also reporting a delay in the production chain. We hope to be able to give positive feedback on this soon.

The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter can be thought of as an old school network router that can also be used as a 6 port GBit switch or media converter. It has some useful functions, but a DSL modem or WLAN are not included. The device is aimed more at administrators and requires a certain basic knowledge.

Sunrise FTTH or VDSL? With VDSL you still need a modem, or your rental device from Sunrise. With FTTH there are two versions at Sunrise, configurations and experiences can be found here: https://community.ubnt.com/t5...

It is difficult to answer whether the connection is better. The data throughput of the EdgeRouter X SFP is very high in any case. (see other answered questions) Fixed IP and DHCP is no problem with it. We use this router with several access points and switches from Ubiquiti and we are very satisfied with the performance. (When using the previous access points, there is hardly any improvement in the connection quality/coverage of the WLAN with this router. - Only an improvement in data throughput could be achieved with it).

I also have the Unifi APs for my home. But you can no longer operate the new ones directly on the router, UBNT has finally noticed that there are PoE standards. Otherwise I am completely satisfied with them

Yes, this is possible. This is called MAC/IP mapping with the EdgeRouter. Enclosed are the operating instructions (in English), where you can find the whole thing on pages 40-42: https://dl.ubnt.com/guides...
