Yes, there is an insert for steaming. Rice standard is 1h and the quick rice programme is 40min. What I often do is fill the rice cooker with water and rice in the morning and programme the timer via the app so that the rice is ready exactly when I need it. There are recipes in the app that I would never make with a rice cooker, e.g. congee or cakes, but it cooks simple rice wonderfully and is ready when you want it. By the way, there are other cooking options on the internet.
