Yes, that works. However, you hang the part BETWEEN the Chromecast and the monitor. And you also need a power supply via USB for the part, but some monitors now have this.

I'm using this splitter with the Apple TV 4K, with HDMI going into a BenQ beamer, and SPDIF (optical) into a Denon receiver. No issues whatsoever.

You can output the sound and the picture separately. My picture gets to a beamer and the sound gets digitally to the surround system.
