Game preview June
Which game are you most looking forward to?
A new console, a dystopian postman adventure and a football game that has more similarities to "Rocket League" than "EA Sports FC" await you this month.
«Heroes of the Storm» was supposed to be the next big star in the «MOBA» firmament. Blizzard's answer to «Dota 2» and «League of Legends» was the game highlight in June ten years ago, but was never able to fulfil the high expectations. The Switch 2 also has big shoes to fill this month. «Mario Kart World» is a heavyweight among the launch games. But there are also plenty of new games to play outside of the Nintendo universe.
In this city-building simulator, you make an industrial landscape pulsate. In the USA of the 1980s, the aim is to optimise production chains, acquire new technologies, establish relationships and maximise profits. All hail capitalism!

It's no coincidence that so many games will be released for the Switch on 5 June, when Nintendo's console is officially released. In addition to the highlights listed, the following games will also be released for the Switch 2.

The undisputed highlight of the Switch 2 lets you explore an open game world with Mario, Toad or the cow cow for the first time. There's a lot to discover there. The centrepiece is the Cups, which send you across the huge world. You can not only compete in the races with four players locally, but also online with up to 24 riders.

The revamped version of the 3DS role-playing game sends Switch 2 owners on a journey to find the elemental crystals. In the turn-based tactical game, you accompany four warriors of light on their epic adventure. The remaster also includes two additional mini-games.

Even ten francs/euros seems too expensive for this playable Switch 2 tutorial, which is a kind of interactive exhibition of the new functions and technologies. It looks cute, but it's a shame it doesn't come with the console as a free demo.
When: 5 June
Where: Switch 2
Multiplayer: no
In the role of two detectives, you and another person have to solve the puzzle of a wanted killer together. The game can only be played by two people and is similar in principle to «Split Fiction». Here, however, both people have to buy the game and there is no cross-play.
When: 5 June
Where: PC, Mac, Android, iOS
Multiplayer: Online co-op for two people
It's no coincidence that the Header image is reminiscent of the cult Playstation racing game «Wipeout». In terms of gameplay, it also looks like the spiritual successor to the futuristic racing game. However, in «Fast Fusion» you apparently have no weapons at your disposal to take out your opponents. Instead, there is the «Fusion» ability, thanks to which you can fuse vehicles and transform them into new creations.
When: 5 June
Where: Switch 2
Multiplayer: up to four people online or locally
Four curious children are transported to a hidden world by an old map. Using typical survival mechanics, they have to find their way home. Chopping wood, crafting and cooking are the order of the day. With its pretty cartoon graphics and casual presentation, it is primarily aimed at children or parents looking for a co-operative game. The predecessor of the same name was released for the Game Boy in 1999.
When: 5 June
Where: Switch 2
Multiplayer: local for two people, online for up to four
Toby Fox, the developer of the unusual, role-playing game «Undertales», tells a parallel story in «Deltarune». This also consists of many curious characters and equally unusual battles. Sometimes they are turn-based like in «Final Fantasy», then they are reminiscent of «Guitar Hero» and then you suddenly have to dodge projectiles like in a bullet hell game. The first two chapters have already been published, now parts three and four will follow.
When: 5 June
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch 1 and 2

With the world in danger of freezing to death, humanity transfers its consciousness to the virtual world of Etheria. However, the next threat awaits them there in the form of beings called Animus. In this fantasy cyberpunk world, you play a hyperlinker who is tasked with uncovering the truth behind Etheria. This is done in turn-based, tactical battles. The whole thing looks pretty crazy visually.

With its action sequences and car chases, the trailer is reminiscent of «GTA». This is no coincidence, as Leslie Benzies, one of the former leading heads of Rockstar's action series, is behind it. «Mindseye» is a futuristic third-person action game. It is set in a near future in which the military, AI and robots dominate the action. The associated platform «Everywhere» is potentially more promising. Players will be able to use it to create their own content. The studio compares it to the custom servers of «Minecraft». Initially at least, this will only be available on PC.
When: 10 June
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no
An action adventure game with Metroidvania elements and a steampunk-inspired world awaits you here. It looks simply gorgeous. The trilogy consists of the first game, a 2D platformer, and the two 3D sequels. The games featuring the chattering gecko were developed by Crystal Dynamics. The studio is better known today for the «Tomb Raider» series. The series enjoyed similar popularity to «Banjo-Kazooie» and «Crash Bandicoot». So if you want to fill this lizarding knowledge gap or enjoy indulging in nostalgia, you will soon have the opportunity to do so.

After the story-driven single-player titles «Control» and «Alan Wake 2», Remedy is taking a break in the form of a wacky co-op baller game. Firebreak is the special unit of the Federal Bureau of Control. It is therefore set in the same universe as «Control». The extradimensional headquarters is attacked by all kinds of supernatural monsters and you have to defend it. Seems much more humorous than the previous Remedy titles.

Since «Mirror's Edge» I've been longing for a new parkour game. «Rooftops & Alleys: The Parkour Game» could satisfy this need, even if it is visually less contrasting than EA's cult game. Acrobatically, however, things are just as wild. No roof, crane or pole is safe from you. The physics don't seem to be taken too seriously, which should help the fun.
When: 17 June
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
Multiplayer: Online PvP
If you're looking for a football simulator, you've come to the wrong place. «Rematch» comes from the studio behind the fighting game «Sifu». There are secrets to uncover and demons to fight.

Like most people, I can't begin to summarise the story of the first part. The sequel to Sam Porter Bridges' postman adventure looks set to be just as weird and wacky again. Even if you don't understand exactly what's going on, it should provide the best entertainment thanks to talking bobblehead characters, electric guitars that shoot lightning bolts and winged cats.
When: 26 June, Early Access 24 June
Where: PS5
Multiplayer: no
Watch out, you're about to fill up your gaming keyword bingo card. «Shuffle Tactics» is a tactical roguelike deck-building role-playing game with turn-based battles. Apart from the hackneyed genre mix, you can expect a beautifully designed game with gridded playing fields. Not only is the right deck crucial, but also the positioning of your characters.

Nightdive Studios have already pimped the first instalment in an impressive way. Now the sequel to Looking Glass' legendary sci-fi action role-playing game is here. While Part 1 was developed from scratch, this is a remaster with less drastic but substantial changes.

A hand-drawn 3D platformer in which the character and most of the enemies are 2D. In addition to this unusual mix, Ruffy's ability to change the game world stands out. With his magical «Flip» power, he can turn ice into lava or the sun into the moon to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles.

Finally, something cosy: «Cast n Chill» is a fishing game that can be played actively or passively. In passive mode, it is an idle game in which fish jump into the net without you having to do anything. Active mode is faster, but you have to cast the rod yourself. There are over 50 fish to catch. The game is packed in wonderful pixel graphics.

Which game are you most looking forward to?
Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
