A puzzle house with changing rooms, supernatural teen drama and a real-time strategy game with strong Command & Conquer vibes are all available to play this month.
Ten years ago, Goat Simulator was the highlight for April. Games to cause chaos and destruction are again on offer this month, including some with trigger-happy rabbits.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – the PlayStation’s crocodile bites back
This late nineties 3D platformer featuring a cuddly crocodile is being re-released. The remaster offers improved graphics and modern controls, but also retro video modes if you prefer things more traditional.

Steel Hunters – sparks will fly
Take your place in the cockpit of a giant battle mech and duel with other players. In addition to human opponents, there are also computer-controlled enemies to mow down. The game relies on Duo tactics, where you and another player enter into a Symbiosis. On top of that, there’s also a nice destruction system. Steel Hunters is free to play, so it’s worth trying out at the very least.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered – homework for TV night
This revised version of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed zombie PC title is being released to coincide with the start of the show’s second season. In addition to graphical improvements, there’s now DLSS 3 as well as support for DualSense controllers and ultrawide monitors. Roguelike survival mode No Return is also new to the party.

Sand – desert dust-ups
In Sand, you control giant machines set against a parallel reality version of 1910. You use them to explore a post-apocalyptic dune world, collect resources and fight other players. The game alternates between passages on foot and ones where you’re behind the wheel of your battle colossus.

South of Midnight – play me the blues
Hazel is drawn into a magical world inspired by American folklore. Once there, she tries to find her mother, who was swept away along with her house by a flood. The style is just as unusual as the world, which contains talking fish, giant crocodiles and sinister shadow monsters. There’s a strong focus on the soundtrack, which often reflects exactly what you’ll be experiencing.

Commandos: Origins – do the mole
Commandos: Origins is a promising tactics and stealth game. Just like in previous games, which date all the way back to 1998, timing and tactics are essential in order to infiltrate enemy bases. You can now even bury yourself into the ground to evade enemy scouts.

Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days – surviving the zombie apocalypse
In this 2.5D game, you try to guide a group of survivors from one hiding place to the next – always on the lookout for the zombies plaguing your 80s Texan town. You sneak, collect resources and erect barricades to survive the apocalypse by any means necessary.

Descenders Next – the mountain is calling
Those downhill bikes from the first part make way for mountain bikes and snowboards in Next. Use both to make your way down a mountain while showing off your crazy acrobatics. Whether it’s across green meadows or snow-covered slopes, alone or with friends, you can live out your extreme sports desires right here.

The Talos Principle: Reawakened – those puzzle robots are back
In 2014, the Croatian studio behind first-person shooter series Serious Sam proved it can do more than just mindless blasting with puzzle game The Talos Principle. Now, there’s a general overhaul thanks to Unreal Engine 5. We also get an additional chapter with even more puzzles, as well as a community puzzle editor.

Forever Skies – save the earth with your friends
Alone or with up to three friends, you explore a post-apocalyptic Earth. In typical survival game style, you stuff your pockets with resources, build new tools and improve your giant airship. After two years in Early Access, version 1.0 is now ready for release.

Warside – someone say Advance Wars?
If you fancy pixelated yet cute military battles, take a look at Warside. The game evokes strong memories of Nintendo’s Advance Wars series. Its turn-based battles are beautifully animated, and with twelve playable commanders, there should be plenty of variety. In addition to the campaign, you can also try multiplayer mode and compete with human opponents.

Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2 – «What’s in the Box?»
A magical summer lived by four high school friends came to an abrupt end in the last instalment. Part two reveals the mysterious events that took place 27 years ago. Hopefully we'll find out what's in the package, that was sent to them anonymously and bears the name of their childhood band.

Lushfoil Photography Sim – a virtual photo journey
If you don’t feel like going outside with your camera or your surroundings aren’t quite so picture-perfect, take a look at Lushfoil Photography Sim. Amateur photographers will get their money’s worth, that’s for sure. There are numerous photorealistic landscapes to choose from, which you can capture with an in-game DSLR camera.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree – get ready for a long adventure
This 2.5D action RPG combines Souls-like and Metroidvania elements. Visually, the dark fantasy world is reminiscent of Castlevania. There are different classes and abilities that allow different playstyles. The developers promise over 40 hours of gaming fun.

Rusty Rabbit – bunny battles
Instead of waiting for the new ice age to melt, humanity has left earth. Bunnies have taken over the reins. Cute? Yep. Ready to tussle? Oh yeah. Piloting a battle mech, you explore the ruins of a bygone civilisation and fight all kinds of threats. You can upgrade your mech in a variety of ways during the course of the game to meet any and all challenges.

Lunar Remastered Collection – back to the 90s
These remasters of two classic Sega Mega CD games come with improvements in graphics, sound and accessibility. Time to relive the glory of 90s JRPGs! In part one, you play a budding dragon master fighting an evil emperor. The sequel takes place a thousand years later, sending you on a search for the goddess Althena.

Once Upon a Puppet – pure theatre
Once Upon a Puppet is a magical 2.5D puzzle platformer. As a puppeteer, you literally hold the strings in your hands. You control protagonist Drev through a magical theatre kingdom, which resembles a huge stage.

Sunderfolk – board game fun for the sofa
Sunderfolk plays like a classic RPG board game in the style of Gloomhaven. The controls ensure a sense of community, up to four people can control their characters via smartphones. This way, you can play with friends on the sofa without having to slog through a 40-page manual beforehand.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – age discrimination begone
In this game, you enter a unique world. A painter wakes up once a year, paints a number and all people of that age turn to dust. As the number gets smaller and smaller, you set out to destroy the painter. The combat system is a mix of real-time and turn-based. Visually, the game looks fantastic.

Tempest Rising – C&C sends its regards
A real-time strategy game that’s obviously based on the classic Command & Conquer series. An absolute must for fans of massive explosive battles.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves – let your fists do the talking
After 26 years, we’re getting a new instalment in this fighting game series that achieved cult status during the 90s. The new combat system called REV promises exciting battles. On top of that, there are two control schemes. Both beginners and veterans should feel right at home.

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy – reaching the world’s edge
This remake of the original 1999 adventure game was developed from scratch. As a young journalist, you have to travel the world to reach a mysterious country. Apparently, that’s where you’ll find the last egg of the legendary Great White Birds. The whole thing is set in a steampunk alternative reality, sprinkled with numerous puzzles to solve.

Days Gone Remastered – a facelift for the undead
The PS4 zombie open-world game is being upgraded for PS5. This includes greater view distance, prettier shadows and better lighting effects. If you like chugging through a sprawling post-apocalypse on a motorcycle and killing hordes of zombies freakers, the game’s still worth a look.

The game looks great, has a pleasant lightness to it and levels only last between five and 20 minutes. Perfect for short and long gaming sessions with friends.
