@ituagent, you can indeed use whatever brand you want. I'm using Migro's regular charcoal
Lotus Grill original requires batteries. But for Lotus grill with USB has an option to be powered by a power bank in case you run out of batteries. It has 2 options to run the Lotus grill - USB Powerbank and batteries
It's a German company - but I don't know where they are manufacted.

Had exactly the same problem, after contacting support the grill was replaced. It seems that the fan is a weak point. The new grill now works :-)
