The secret of the Dura Ace BC-9000 brake cables is a polymer coating that looks like hoses wrapped around the cable under a microscope. This provides a smaller surface that rubs against the inner housing lining. Grease is also retained longer. The main benefit is more braking power with much less effort on the brake lever.Polymer coated brake cables (BC-9000) may only be used in combination with BR-9000/6800/5800/RS500/R9100/R8000 series brakes. With other combinations, the clamping of the brake cable is not tight enough.
