Uncompromising Video Surveillance Storage

WD Purple hard drives are designed to meet the challenges of continuous video surveillance. They are specifically developed for surveillance systems to withstand the increased heat and vibrations that can occur in NVR devices. Common desktop hard drives are designed for short-term operation, but not for the harsh conditions of a 24/7 HD surveillance system. With WD Purple hard drives, you get a reliable video surveillance storage solution that has been tested for compatibility with numerous video surveillance systems. The exclusive AllFrame technology reduces frame loss and enhances video playback.

Industry-leading storage. Surveillance solutions you can trust.

Western Digital has been providing storage solutions for video surveillance for over ten years. With WD Purple hard drives, you receive storage designed for continuous operation in surveillance systems and high temperatures, ensuring high-quality video playback at all times.

Western Digital's exclusive AllFrame technology

All WD Purple hard drives feature AllFrame technology, which reduces image loss and improves video recording and playback.

Higher workload rate

WD Purple hard drives offer a workload rate of up to 180 TB/year. That's three times more than our desktop hard drives. This makes them ideally suited for the high demands of modern DVR and NVR video surveillance systems.

Multiple cameras, multiple streams

Modern recorders now support multiple video streams per camera. WD Purple hard drives support up to 64 single-stream HD cameras. With this versatility, you can flexibly expand your security system at any time.

In computer science, a buffer is a region of a physical memory storage used to temporarily hold data while it is being moved from one place to another. Typically, the data is stored in a buffer as it is retrieved from an input device (such as a mouse) or just before it is sent to an output device (such as speakers). However, a buffer may be used when moving data between processes within a computer. This is comparable to buffers in telecommunication. Buffers can be implemented in a fixed memory location in hardware - or by using a virtual data buffer in software, pointing at a location in the physical memory. In all cases, the data stored in a data buffer, are stored on a physical storage media.

The hard drive offers a storage capacity of 2 TB, which is rather low for modern, continuously operating video surveillance systems.

Low storage capacity

A maximum spindle speed of 5.400 rpm and a transfer rate of 175 MB/s provide adequate performance for video recording, though they sit at the lower end of the scale.

Average transfer speed

The 3.5-inch data drive can be integrated into standard video recorders via the SATA III interface and supports up to 64 HD cameras.
