The Philips Hue Gradient Ambiance extension is specially designed to extend existing LED strips. It does not require its own power supply unit as it is connected to the existing LED strip. It can therefore not be used on its own, but only in combination with a basic set of the Hue Gradient Ambiance LED strip.

In addition to the app, the following options are available for switching the LED strips on and off and dimming them: - Dimmer switch: you can use a Hue dimmer switch to control the brightness and colour. - Voice assistants: With Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit, you can control the lighting by voice command. - Tap Dial: The Tap Dial from Philips Hue also offers a way to control the lighting using physical inputs. These options are particularly useful if you have a Hue Bridge, as they allow seamless integration into your smart home system.

### 1. Adaptation for a curved screen The Philips Hue "Gradient Ambiance basic kit" LED strip is not specifically designed for use behind a curved screen. Although you can place it behind a screen, the most suitable model for this use would be the "Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip", which is specially designed for televisions and screens, including appropriate brackets and adhesives. ### 2. Synchronisation with video games Yes, it is possible to synchronise the "Gradient Ambiance basic kit" with video games, but this requires a few additional accessories. For synchronisation with video games, you would need the "Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box" and the "Philips Hue Bridge". The HDMI Sync Box analyses the screen images and sends the necessary information to the Philips Hue Bridge, which in turn adjusts the colours of the lights in real time. ### 3. Length and adaptation for a 34" screen A 2m (200cm) strip might be enough for a 34" screen, but it depends on how you want to place it and the shape of the screen. The "Gradient Ambiance basic kit" can be glued to smooth surfaces and can be shortened or extended with extensions, offering some flexibility. However, for a curved screen, the shape and length of the strip should be carefully planned to ensure a seamless installation.

Do you still need the Hue Bridge for this?

To use the "Gradient Ambiance Base (RGB, 200 cm, Indoor)" from Philips Hue, the Hue Bridge is not absolutely necessary to use the basic functions. Here are the details: - The Lightstrip can be controlled immediately via Bluetooth, which enables direct connection with a smartphone or tablet. - However, connecting it to a Hue Bridge offers additional functions, such as control of over 50 lights and accessories, automations and the ability to control the lights from anywhere in the world. The Lightstrip can therefore be used without the Hue Bridge, but the full functionality and additional benefits of the Philips Hue smart home solution are only unlocked when connected to a Hue Bridge.

According to various internet sources, it should also be possible every 12.5 cm. First check whether the strip also works uncut. There are also a few Mobtag models.

Technically possible but not foreseen by the manufacturer, not recommended, and out of warranty. Signify supports 1M extensions via a 4-pin connector (https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product/philips-hue-gradient-ambiance-erweiterung-multicoloured-100-cm-led-strips-16467481), or shortening every 25cm, but not reconnection of cut segments. In fact, the internal manufacture allows it to be shortened every 12.5cm. The 25cm segments can probably be reconnected by soldering 4 wires or connectors like the original one at the end of the Lightstrip, but this is not an easy operation on a flexible PCB, and the diffuser will probably also be damaged close to the solder in order to reach the circuit. It's trickier than on the Hue Lightstrip Plus/V4. Basically, we really don't recommend it, and if the screen clamp only covers about ten centimetres, it's easier to simply leave the part of the Lightstrip behind hidden. Hey Hanschitz The whole thing works, but it is important to cut them in the right place. LED light strips consist of several individual circuits. The cut lines provided mark the end of one circuit and the beginning of another. Therefore, only cut along these lines, which are usually located between copper points. (Are often marked with a dashed line). Kind regards Kai
