Smartphone photos on paper: these mini printers pass the test
by Michelle Brändle
This instant camera has a touchscreen and Wi-Fi. You can use it to take fun souvenir photos and selfies at events.
Do you like taking photos and want to print them out straight away? Then instant cameras come in handy. The Sprocket Photobooth from HP is easy to set up and use like one of those good old photo booths. Only more modern.
The Sprocket instant photo booth printer is available in white and pink. Both versions are technically identical. The device creates photos in 3×4 inch format (approx. 7.6 × 10.2 centimetres) and uses ZINK printing technology.
You don't need any ink or toner, just the matching Sprocket 3×4 film from HP. The colour pigments are already in the photo paper. The printer activates them with heat and transfers the image to the paper. Each film has 100 images.
The printer is controlled via an integrated 10.1-inch LCD touch display with 1280 × 800 pixels. There you can select layouts, filters and frames and view a preview. An 8-megapixel camera with autofocus is also installed, supported by an LED ring light for illumination.
The printer connects to a smartphone or tablet via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). This allows photos to be transferred directly and edited in the app before printing. It is powered by a mains adapter.
An internal memory module offers 16 gigabytes, of which around four gigabytes are reserved for user images. At 55.1 × 34.5 × 5.6 centimetres and weighing 3.6 kilograms, the Sprocket Photobooth is significantly larger than the classic, portable Sprocket models.
The Sprocket Photobooth can do more than just print photos. An event mode can be set up via the app or directly on the device, allowing you to limit the number of prints or share images via QR codes, for example. According to the manufacturer, the printouts are smudge-proof, waterproof and tear-proof.
A backpack in black or pink is available for transport. The display protection film provides protection. Printouts can be customised with the sticker set.
My interests are varied, I just like to enjoy life. Always on the lookout for news about darts, gaming, films and series.
