Recently discovered: the "Ultimate Bib Shorts" from Gorewear

With the "Ultimate Bib Shorts", Gorewear has developed high-performance cycling shorts that are designed to offer exceptional comfort. This is made possible by a 3D printing process and high-tech textiles. The award-winning cycling shorts were presented in Munich at the end of November.
"Achieving optimum comfort in the saddle is still a major challenge for cyclists," says Jürgen Erd, Product Manager at Gorewear. With the new Ultimate Bib Shorts, the brand has tackled precisely this problem. "By integrating advanced fabric technology and padding with zero-waste 3D printing technology and bio-based and recycled materials. This increases riding comfort, product durability and environmental friendliness," continues Jürgen Erd.
According to Erd, these cycling bib shorts have a 3D-printed seat pad that helps to regulate skin temperature and improve breathability. The high-tech fabric of the shorts also offers seamless compression, robustness, grip and should ensure that as much air as possible gets to your bum. The "Ultimate Bib Shorts" were honoured with an ISPO Award at the international sports trade fair in Munich at the end of November.
The trade fair's expert jury wrote: "Various textile high-tech techniques come together here: 3D printing and an innovative weaving technique that seamlessly combines different functional areas. The use of recycled materials and the waste-free production of the upholstery is another plus point."

Integrated functional zones and N3X seat pad with 3D printing
The advanced fabric integrates compression, durability, grip and ventilation where the rider needs it most: on the bum. According to the manufacturer, the seat pad was developed in close collaboration between the engineers at Elastic Interface and Gorewear. Gorewear calls the pad N3X and manufactures it using a 3D printing process in which it is built up layer by layer. This method ensures better control over the technical properties of the pad compared to conventional foam pads. And it creates seamlessly merging, individualised support areas.

Made from a hydrophobic, i.e. water-repellent material, the N3X padding dries quickly and absorbs only minimal sweat. According to Gorewear, the open grid structure improves breathability, drying time and optimises skin temperature management compared to conventional foam seat pads. The special weaving technique enables so-called functional zones without additional seams. This results in a smooth, refined look while improving the aesthetics, comfort and durability of the trousers.
