Frontier ends "F1 Manager" series due to lack of success
The end of the "F1 Manager" series is sealed. Frontier Developments is pulling the ripcord after weak sales figures. The focus is now on other, more profitable projects such as the "Planet Coaster" series.
The publisher Frontier Developments has announced that it is discontinuing development of the "F1 Manager" series. This means that there will be no further instalment of the racing management simulation after this year's "F1 Manager 2024". The studio cited the franchise's poor sales figures as the reason. As a result, Frontier has not yet been able to make a profit with the series. This can be seen in a financial report published in September.
Frontier also explained that it had held "commercial discussions with an IP partner" that led to the "voluntary termination of a contract for a future game prior to the start of development". In other words, there were negotiations about the early termination of the Formula 1 licence agreement.
The "F1 Manager" series comprises three games: It began with "F1 Manager 2022" and has been released every year since then. In future, the studio wants to focus on other franchises: These include the construction games "Planet Coaster", "Planet Zoo" and "Jurassic World Evolution".
As an alternative, I can recommend "Motorsport Manager" from Sega. Although the game was released in 2016, it has already kept me hooked for several hundred hours. I am particularly impressed by the gameplay. You can also load the data for the current Formula 1 season using mods. Are you more interested in historical databases? No problem either. The endurance and GT series are now available as official DLCs.
