Android 15: Google names first innovations
Google provides a first glimpse of Android 15, the new version of the operating system that is designed to further improve performance and security as well as enhance the cameras.
Google has released the first Developer Preview of Android 15. App developers can now start adapting their programmes to the new possibilities. There are no major changes yet, but there are a few exciting details. These are new tools for app developers that are not yet visible to users.
Camera, screen sharing and dynamic performance
Camera apps offer, among other things, more control over the brightness of the preview image in the dark. Ideally, this ultimately ensures better shots in poor lighting conditions. It should also be possible to control the flash intensity more precisely.
Android 15 will also have a new mode for screen sharing. In this mode, you don't share the entire screen, but only a part of it. This should be particularly interesting for tablets.
Google also wants to further improve the "Android Dynamic Performance Framework". New interfaces should enable games and other performance-hungry apps to communicate more efficiently with the energy and cooling management of the devices. There is talk of an additional energy efficiency mode and more precise tuning of the CPU and GPU.
Other announcements for Android 15 include:
- New data types in Health Connect.
- New interfaces for the FileIntegrityManager to increase the security of files.
- Extension of UMP support for virtual MIDI apps.
- Privacy Sandbox up to date (level 10).
The roadmap for Android 15
Google plans to release the second developer preview of Android 15 in March. Beta versions will follow from April to July and will be available to a larger group of people. The biggest innovations are expected to be announced at Google I/O in May - even if Google has not yet given an exact date for the developer conference. The beta versions will be followed by the final version of Android 15 from August. Google has not named a specific month for this.
