According to our supplier, the cylinder values are positive. For spectacle prescriptions, the cylinder values (CYL) are normally negative. With contact lenses, however, the cylinder values can be both positive and negative. This is because contact lenses sit directly on the eye and are therefore constructed differently to spectacles. Some contact lens manufacturers use negative cylinder values, while others use positive values, depending on which notation system is used.
