The styles 1A, 3A, and 5A are the most commonly used. Style 1A means that the player and the yoyo (ball bearing) are both connected by the string. The player performs tricks by interacting with the string; this is still the most practiced yoyo style today. Style 3A is similar to 1A, but with one yoyo in each hand, requiring interactions between the two yoyos. Style 5A differs in that the yoyo is connected to a counterweight on the other side of the string, increasing the number of possible tricks.
