This R4 exuded Parisian haute couture. The French showcased style – the R4 in the elegant Parisienne version made it possible. This premium R4, with its attractive contrasting sides, was intended to be the tangible result of a new target audience approach. In 1963, Renault's decision-makers finally wanted to get more women behind the wheel of the R4 – the newly designed haute couture model with a special pattern could be tested by interested female customers for 48 hours. The haute couture cars eventually became the Parisienne models. This particular model reveals a lot about the automotive understanding of French drivers. In Germany, things were much more pragmatic, as the R4 was once one of the popular, agile, and cost-effective small cars from foreign production – a typical family car. Initially featuring a small, rather inconspicuous grille, the French compact car with a practical hatchback quickly became a real alternative to the Beetle and similar models during its production, serving as a practical everyday vehicle without sentimentality. The body was dark green, with light ivory sides featuring a wicker pattern, and the interior was ochre brown with a black steering wheel. The chassis was black, front headlights were transparent, and rear lights were red-transparent. The rims were silver, the grille had a silver frame and logo. Window frames were black, turn signals were printed in orange, door handles were silver, and the fuel cap and lettering "Parisienne," along with the rear lettering "4 Parisienne," were in black.
