Inspired by the bestselling and award-winning board game War of the Ring, War of the Ring - The Card Game allows players to immerse themselves in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and create their own version of the dramatic conflict between the Dark Lord Sauron and the Free Peoples of Middle-earth.

In War of the Ring - The Card Game, up to 4 players compete in two teams, the Shadows against the Free Peoples, with each player using a specific and different pack of cards representing the strengths and weaknesses of the various factions involved in the war.

The Free Peoples are desperately trying to fulfill their quest to destroy the One Ring while defending their homelands from the advancing hordes of Sauron and his evil allies. The players of the Shadow must strike quickly and decisively before the Ringbearers can fulfill their quest or attempt to slowly corrupt Frodo by burdening him with wounds, hardship, and the grief of losing his companions.

During the game, players will take turns playing cards representing the characters, armies, items, and events of the War of the Ring. Each card played will aid or hinder the journey of the companions as they progress along their path or be used to defend or conquer the fortresses of Middle-earth as they fight to control the new battlefield cards that are activated each turn.
