The Junkers JU 52 is affectionately known as "Aunt JU" and originates from the Junkers Aircraft Works AG in Dessau. Originally designed as a cargo aircraft, the JU 52 was later predominantly used as a passenger aircraft. Characteristic of the aircraft are its three engine motors and the corrugated metal exterior. The JU 52 model can be equipped with either one large engine or three smaller ones. In the version with only one motor, the two outer propellers rotate freely.
In 2016, the Junkers JU 52 was awarded "Model of the Year" in the electric flight category by the aviation magazine FlugModell.
