For locomotives, up to 32 functions can be switched, while for accessories, up to 320 Motorola or 2048 DCC solenoids are possible.

Additionally, the Central Station 3 includes two built-in locomotive card readers for storing locomotive data or quickly calling up locomotives by inserting the locomotive card. It also has an SD card slot for memory expansion and an integrated loudspeaker for playing sounds typical of model railways. A powerful booster is integrated to supply the layout with traction and switching current.

The system supports additional driving consoles, further layouts, and keyboards, allowing for common and separate configurations for the layout areas to be controlled, which can be stored in the Central Station 3. It features two built-in USB hosts for devices such as a mouse, keyboard, or USB stick, a USB charging socket, a network connection for communication with a PC, connections for two Mobile Stations, a connection for external loudspeakers, and others for the Märklin bus system.
