As part of the presentation of the new Nightjet generation, the 1216 012 was redesigned as a promotional vehicle for the successful night train division of ÖBB. The new Nightjet push-pull trains will be pulled by locomotives from the 1216 Taurus series in the future. The 1216 012 is one of the locomotives approved for operation in Italy and frequently pulls the so-called Brenner-ECs from Munich via Innsbruck to Venice.
