Product details

Framo or rather Barkas? From 1954 to 1961, the small transporter Barkas V901/2 was manufactured at the VEB Barkas Works in Karl-Marx-Stadt (formerly Framo in Hainichen until 1956). Due to its origins, it was often referred to as the Framo V901/2 and was officially designated as such starting in 1956. Retaining the technology, the three-quarter-ton Framo V901 from the East German automotive industry was externally redesigned in 1954 and further developed into the V901/2 model. Like its predecessor, the popular small transporter was available in various versions, such as a panel van, semi-bus, bus, flatbed truck, and with special bodies for the police, postal service, and various trade organizations. The top speed of this transporter, styled in the spirit of the 1950s, was 75-82 km/h. Although this did not meet the domestic demand for transporters, it was still exported to the Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, and Hungary, where the demand could not be sufficiently met either. Due to a severe shortage of small transporters, many V901/2 models were still in everyday use in East Germany even in the late 1980s. Worn or damaged vehicles could be quickly repaired thanks to ongoing spare parts production and the proven frame construction. A total of 25,604 units of the V901/2 model were produced.
