The sensor dispenser runs on 4 AA batteries (not included), not rechargeable batteries. You can use normal liquid soap and washing-up liquid as long as they do not contain exfoliating particles. For dishwashing liquid, compatibility with "spring" dishwashing liquid is explicitly mentioned, other brands should work similarly if they are thin enough.
