Can the Kärcher BP 7 Home & Garden pump also be "operated" by power on/off, or do I have to physically reach this foot switch? I would like to place the pump in an inaccessible location and make the socket switchable. Does anyone know or could try this? Thank you!

Should work.
In addition, the pump can also be set to "AUTO". It then switches on automatically when the tap is opened, i.e. when water is needed.
