Tapered roller bearings have conical raceways in both the inner and outer rings, between which tapered rollers are arranged. The apex points of all conical surfaces converge at a common point on the bearing axis. Therefore, tapered roller bearings are particularly suitable for accommodating combined (radial and simultaneously axial) loads. Due to their internal design, single-row tapered roller bearings cannot be used alone, but only in conjunction with a second bearing or as a bearing pair. Tapered roller bearings are generally not self-retaining. The inner ring with rollers and cage can be installed separately from the outer ring.
