Kirschen Chisel 4 mm with Beech Handle

The chisels (also known as carving chisels or gouges) are hand-forged from a special tool steel. The forging process further enhances the material structure of the Kirschen chisels. The heat treatment in a salt bath achieves a hardness of ± HRc 61 along the entire usable length of the blade, significantly exceeding the requirements of the German DIN standard. A self-developed polishing technique creates a surface free of grooves, allowing for a smooth cut and easier penetration into the wood. The chisels are factory-made with a cutting angle of 25°. This angle is excellent for soft to medium-hard woods. However, before the chisels are used for the first time, they should be worked on with a sharpening stone to achieve a razor-sharp edge for initial use. To ensure many years of successful work with the chisel, we recommend cleaning the tool with a lightly oiled cloth after each use. The oil film applied in this way protects the chisel from moisture and thus from rust. This significantly extends the tool's lifespan and enhances the enjoyment of using it.
