As soon as the dirt is a little thicker than a hair (pebbles from the road), does it simply push it in front of itself? Do you then have to lift the head off and "stand" it on the dirt?

Good question, when using the nozzle daily on carpet or slab floors, all dirt particles are sucked in, e.g. larger crumbs or also pebbles (e.g. grit). There is no setting for "dirt", the nozzle adjusts automatically.
We can recommend the nozzle because it is light, can be controlled very well / precisely / easily and at the same time is very flat, i.e. also goes under furniture.
