I am of the same opinion as Anonymus. The font recognition software supplied (scan to word) does not recognise the crosses, but when I scan the card as an image (scan to folder) the crosses are of course there.

This is a matter for the software, not the scanner. But the software supplied with the scanner cannot do it.
