Do I understand this correctly? Is this an inkjet printer? With refill cartridges of CHF 140 per colour? What does this ink printer offer that others don't? Otherwise, I really wonder why I should prefer such technology to cheaper toner.

Yes, this is an inkjet printer. However, it uses PageWidePro technology, i.e. the ink head does not rattle back and forth, but sprays the ink drops along the entire length of the A4 paper onto the paper. This easily achieves print speeds of between 50 and 70 pages per minute, something no other inkjet printer can do, and even most laser printers look old in this respect. The device is not intended

for the two or three photos per year at home, nor can it print borderless, but is simply ingenious for small to medium-sized offices - even volumes of 20K/month do not cause any stomach ache.

With the "expensive" cartridges, one should not simply look at the purchase price but at the range and thus the cost per sheet.

The 477 is also super-fast to boot, has all the necessary features including scan-to-network, scan-to-dropbox, can duplex scan in one pass (>20 double pages/min.) and has a really good 50-page ADF. Printed images are not quite as good as a pure photo ink printer, but still really good.

I'm super happy with my 477dw and don't know of any printer that comes close to offering such value for money and speed with so many features - I would never give it away.

Have you ever calculated the price per printed page?
Compare the price per page of an inkjet and a laser printer....
And NOT the toner/ink price per se....
At these page numbers, you'll put any cheap laser printer to shame.
Generally, the cheaper an ink/toner printer, the higher the price per page.

I've been having to do a lot of colour printing for school lately, and am annoyed that my Brother DCP-L8450CDW has such high consumption costs. I think I'm going to go weak on this HP one next time;-)

I have always had good experiences with HP but my HP 447dw complains every time it prints (paper jam etc.).
What can you recommend... Thanks a lot

I can only agree with the comments. The 477dw actually prints great and very fast. The price for the print cartridge is quite high, but the ink is enough for a lot of printed pages. Whether these are actually as many pages as claimed, I dare to doubt. But since every manufacturer probably uses figures that are not practical, it is difficult to make a comparison.
The only (major) disadvantage, however,

is the internal SW. The unit takes quite a long time to start up (and rattles something along). Switching it off is even worse - it hangs up regularly. From the simple message "not shutting down correctly" to "bluescreen". I have already checked with HP, but it seems to be a fundamental problem with the SW of the device. There is no solution except for the advice to "pull the plug if necessary". Of course, you can always leave it running - then you have avoided the problem. But then it comes out of sleep mode at regular intervals and cleans the heads on its own.
But as I said, when it prints, it prints well and quickly.
