A4 is possible, various foils can be used.
What is fast enough is not so easy to define. For home use definitely, for a whole school class I would look at a different product.

Other brands should work, but I have never tested it. The material should simply be the same.

A3 + A4 ok.

I bought this laminator. You can laminate A4 and A3. You can use another brand of laminating sheets but if they are too thick, they won't stick well. The boxes on the sheets indicate how many microns they will be glued to. This laminator glues up to 175 microns but not more. If you have 180 micron or 200 micron sheets, they will quickly come unstuck.
