Jay Gardiner has taken on a foolish task: he wants to find the remains of his deceased father in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California. He knows it will be a long journey, but Jay feels it is the only way to shed the burden of guilt he has carried since his father's death last year. The dive begins promisingly, but the sudden appearance of a giant squid puts Jay in real danger, which is further intensified by the arrival of a sperm whale searching for food. Suddenly, Jay is grabbed by the squid's tentacles and pulled into the whale's mouth, where he ends up in one of its four stomachs. He quickly realizes that he has only one hour before his oxygen tanks run out – one hour to confront his demons and escape from the belly of a whale.
