Germany 1943. In Berlin, bombs are falling, and Cornelia's parents, who are engaged against the Nazi regime, are in great danger. With heavy hearts, they decide to send their only eight-year-old daughter alone to the Baltic Sea - to safety. On the Darss with Aunt Maria and Uncle Friedel, the little girl experiences a summer she will never forget: the Russian army is advancing ever closer, people are afraid, but Cornelia looks forward to liberation. She forms a friendship with three young Red Army soldiers that she will remember for the rest of her life - and in the end, she even uncovers an old family secret.
