After the death of her parents, the orphan Jane Eyre is raised by her hard-hearted aunt. However, for Mrs. Reed, Jane is a burden that she wants to get rid of as quickly as possible. Jane is first sent to a spartan girls' boarding school and eventually takes a modest position as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, she impresses her employer, the brooding Mr. Rochester, with her intelligence, honesty, and wit.
