Author's Text
Tomi Ungerer, born in 1931, comes from a family of watchmakers in Strasbourg. He failed his high school exams, traveled across Europe, and published his first drawings in Simplizissimus. In the mid-1950s, he moved to New York, where his unstoppable rise as a designer, painter, illustrator, children's book author, and advertising graphic artist began. After spending several years on a farm in Nova Scotia, Canada, he now lives with his family in the southwest of Ireland and in Strasbourg.
