For ten long years, the island prince Odysseus participated in the war for Troy, and for another ten years, he was driven across the sea with his dwindling companions. The cunning and eloquent, curious hero is a plaything of the gods. A man with the ability to endure, which is put to the test: by the one-eyed, man-eating Cyclops Polyphemus, by the giant Laestrygonians who throw (and hit) rocks, by the seductive sorceress Circe who turns men into pigs, by the Sirens, and so on. Stripped of all his men, the beleaguered hero lands on the shores of his homeland Ithaca, perhaps to face his greatest battle against the suitors of Penelope, his beloved wife.
