The thing can do VPN passthrough, sure. But can I also configure the router as a VPN client? I am looking for a router for the mobile network that routes all connections via a (preferably open) VPN tunnel.

I haven't seen anything like that and according to the Netgear user community, the M2 and M5 routers can only pass through and not NAT LAN-LAN coupling via VPN. However, I have passed the router on to a trainee who lives in the mountains without a landline, so I can't clarify this any further.

The thing delivered almost 1 GBit/s downstream internet traffic in a car in a place well supplied with 5G (motorway exit Rothrist), in the past you needed at least your own fibre optic cable for this - today it also works mobile without any cable - electromagnetically through free space.
