Is the upgrade worthwhile if you have the Logitech MX Ergo. So the predecessor. For the life of me, I can't see anything that should be better. Except for the USB-C connection.

According to my research and the manufacturer's specifications, the innovation is actually centred around the USB-C port and its advantages. Otherwise, it should make slightly quieter clicks. If your current mouse works well and you're happy with it, I wouldn't upgrade. As a new purchase, of course, choose the USB-C port directly, then you don't always have to have an extra micro-USB cable to hand.
