I was able to update mine to 8.1.0 by never inserting a SIM card and performing the update several times via W-LAN.

My device has Android 7.1.1 whether 8.0 is available I do not know Device is top very solid good battery recommended

Too bad they never thought about updating the andriod program, it was for me the deciding point on whether to buy it or not
