I will add a Mac Book to my iMac (1 TB) and store the data on a NAS. Access via iMac and Mac Book. Are the 2x2TB of the NAS Synology DS218j enough or better more?

As mentioned, you have 2TB available in the RAID. You have to know whether this capacity is enough for you, only you know how much data you have. I use the NAS as network storage for two MacBooks Pro which also store their Time Machine backups on the NAS. It has worked without problems since day one...

With the RAID, you have 2 TB at your disposal. How many TB you need, you have to know yourself (Many pictures? Only Word files?...).
