Hello Can someone help me here? If I buy a laptop with a USB port, connect a hub to it and connect 2 external SSD's (SanDisk extreme Protabel V2, one to save photos/videos, the other for backup) how does that affect the read and write rate, do you notice a big difference when you revert from 2 external devices to a USB via a hub...? Are there any programmes to measure and record the transfer rates? Thanks for your feedback!

I personally have not noticed any change in the writing speed. But I also only own HDDs.

There is a great programme called Cristal disk Mark. With it, you can easily measure write and read speed.
