Theoretically, yes... But anyone within a 10km radius will be able to listen in, because the transmission is not encrypted in any way. You also block the channel for other people around you. And yes... for permanent transmission you will have to build something that keeps the PTT button pressed all the time. iVOX (automatic voice recognition) does not work well in my experience. Also, the thing must always be connected to the USB charger. This works fine, but somehow the device restarts every 5-10 minutes, for some reason.... I recommend a "real baby monitor" as a result.
