The MacBook Air models (end of 2010 - mid-2012) only have a USB 2.0 card reader that supports maximum read and write speeds of about 20MB/second. MacBook Air models with USB 3.0 card readers (mid-2013 - early 2014) benefit from significant time savings when transferring large files. This is particularly advantageous for photographers, filmmakers, and graphic artists who work with very high-resolution images and videos. MacBook Air models with USB 2.0 card readers (end of 2010 - mid-2012) will also benefit from a significant expansion of memory capacity by upgrading with a Transcend JetDrive Lite.
