I got it for free for my wife with a contract extension and have to say: it's at least equal to my Nexus 5. Great photos, crisp display with beautiful colours, battery lasts longer, the Sony interface is pleasantly simple and not overloaded, very elegantly made and feels great in the hand. It also has a memory card slot and is waterproof. And the Android 4.4.2 KitKat is just as up-to-date as on the Nexus 5..... The update comes immediately after setting up.
All in all, it's certainly the best compact smartphone for anyone who doesn't want an iPhone.
Hello all,
I've had the Z1C for a few months now, and I have to say it's the best smartphone I've had so far. It meets my criteria, it's not too big, it's the fastest compact phone, it looks great and it works flawlessly and for a very long time. The battery really surprised me because 2 days with "not little" use and gaming works without problems. It's also waterproof, which I think is just great. I always have it with me when I shower and listen to music with it, it's just actually completely waterproof.
About the camera, the pictures are what they are, not perfect, but not bad either. In this case, I'm simply of the opinion that a camera can't be a point of criticism in a smartphone, for photos that are supposed to be good, every phone, but really every phone, is absolute rubbish. You get good photos with a good camera, not with a smartphone, it simply doesn't work, visible light that is captured (photo) has a certain wavelength, and if the sensor has to be super small, then 20MP is no use, because the distance from photon to photon is greater than the pixel density (size) that a smartphone sensor has. Why does a reflex camera have a huge sensor, exactly because of that? I know this isn't explained very well, but if you're going to throw around MP figures, you should also find out how it works, it all depends on the chip size, the bigger the better ^^

The only drawback I find is the restriction of write access to the SD card, but that comes from Google or all Android 4.4 and for many users it probably makes sense.
Otherwise, it's the best Android device I've ever had. The only thing I'd prefer is the on/off button further up, where the hand can naturally reach it. Another positive feature is the good widget for quick control of the connection functions (WLAN, data, BT, NFC, etc). Finally, everything is there and not just half of it.

So, I couldn't resist and have now also got myself the part:) I decided on the Z1 Compact because I finally wanted a handy and really "smart" phone again and not a surfboard that's over 5 inches big. It took a long time, the minis from other manufacturers have been massively limited in performance, resolution, features and quality until now. Now Sony has finally brought out the first compact high-end Android phone, which is the smartphone highlight of the year for my personal needs (until now I had an HTC One X+).
Here are a few points:
++ Incredibly fast and fluid
++ Design is top, workmanship/materials are very valuable
++ HD display is razor-sharp due to the high pixel density
++ Fits well in the hand, very good operation and compact.
+ Did not know the Sony UI before, I like it very much.
+ I was not used to the good camera quality from HTC until now.
+ Battery lasts surprisingly long (up to 2 days for me), you have a lot of optimisation options without sacrificing anything.
o I miss a few small features that I had with HTC, which is probably normal when changing manufacturers. Instead, I have several improvements and features that I didn't have before.
- The only thing I don't find 100% successful is the black back. It looks very classy, but is very susceptible to fingerprints (which may not be so noticeable with the other colours). I would have preferred a different material with a better grip.
All in all, I give it a clear buy recommendation and 5 stars. After all, this device combines pretty much everything I expect from a smartphone and in top quality!
5*, unfortunately with the KitKat update SD card no longer writable, hope this will be fixed by Google in the future. Not the fault of the Z1 compact

Very nice device. Everything has already been written! However, my device had water damage after 2 months. How ironic - the waterproof phone has water damage. Device was cleaned under the tap, then nothing worked. So be a bit careful when it comes to using the device in the pool, for example. Oh yes, and you won't get far with a guarantee :-(
The previous speaker prompted me to give it a 5-star rating as a sort of compensation. Either he got a defective model or he should read the manual! The Z1 compact has an excellent camera with many settings that need to be explored and tried out.
Besides the great camera, this device has a fast processor, a sharp display, good speakers, and many other positive features. I've been using it for 4 months and I'm still thrilled!
Honestly:
The best phone I've had my hands on in years.
Fast and fluid, top workmanship, top display and above all:
SUPER BATTERY. I'm really a heavy user... Notifications without end and surfing GPS etc.. etc.. easily lasts over a day.
If you're looking for a top smart phone in a smaller format, you can't get around the Z1.
The device is really worth its price and looks super nice.
It feels good, is not too big, the display has a very nice brilliance, even in low light and the hardware is top.
It's a shame that the screen doesn't use the entire casing, but that's the case with all devices.

After several Android smartphones, I chose the Z1 Compact because it is the only "mini" (compact) version of a flagship smartphone without any significant sacrifices. Just because I don't want to carry a phablet around in my pocket doesn't mean I want to sacrifice performance.
I would say that the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact is the best smartphone in this size (it was today, but now the Z3 Compact is out).
I was also pleasantly surprised by Sony's update policy. Within a very short time after the release of Android 4.4.4, the update was distributed to the Z1 Compact (without branding - who buys a branded smartphone?).
The high battery life is worth mentioning. With the right settings, the battery can last a week with moderate use.
With the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, I had to realise that the full-fledged haptics didn't appeal to me. I preferred holding my plastic Samsung (Galaxy S Advance - i9070) in my hand. The Sony, on the other hand, just felt heavy. That's one of the reasons why I don't like the iPhone hardware so much. Well. To each his own :-)
I can recommend the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact without hesitation. If you're up for it, you can go straight for the successor, the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.

For 350 CHF the absolute HAMMER!
I am a little disappointed. It's actually a very good phone. But it has happened to me a few times now that the touch screen has not reacted. When I receive a call and can't answer it because of this, it's very (very) annoying! Even when the call is over and you take it off your ear, the phone doesn't always come with you. And no, I don't use a foil on the display.

The Sony Xperia Z1 compact is a first-class device. I have not been this satisfied with any other smartphone (Apple, HTC) for longer. So satisfied. The Xperia is really well thought-out and valuable.
The smartphone is well manufactured and makes an extremely noble impression. The hardware is top-notch, although the camera takes very grainy pictures in poor light. In addition, every selfie with the front camera looks as if it has been photoshopped...
What I really dislike about this smartphone are the small bugs in the software. I don't know if there are any updates or if you just have to live with it....
Software errors:
- The camera often freezes when you take 2 photos in a row. The screen freezes while taking the 2nd photo and the photo is not saved. After closing the camera, the problem persists. Restart required...
- Various apps crash regularly for no apparent reason
- The WLAN regularly goes down and you can no longer connect, or you can no longer see any networks. This can also only be solved by restarting...

It's a pretty big price tag for the name "compact", but finally an Android device where the relative handiness doesn't have to be paid for with a poorer display or weaker performance. The interface and applications respond absolutely smoothly at all times, so it was worth the higher price compared to other compact phones.
Sony's own interface, apps and widgets are first class as usual. My device was delivered with Android 4.3, and I do not recommend the offered upgrade to 4.4. I have studied the changes intensively and have come to the conclusion that the interface is rather regressive compared to 4.3. Hopefully a later update will be better again.
The notification light is much less visible than the "Illumination Strips" previously used by Sony - a pity! It is also hardly customisable without additional apps, most of which have to be paid for. Otherwise, the workmanship of the case is top-notch. I also recommend protective films; the surfaces are sensitive.
I am quite satisfied with the camera. After Sony's mobile phone cameras have been getting worse and worse for about two years now, this is a step back up to an acceptable level. I am also impressed by the battery, which lasts a good two days with fairly intensive use. The Stamina mode is also interesting, as it allows you to get another 1-2 days out of it, provided you can cope with the restrictions (data notifications such as WhatsApp or Facebook are only delivered when the device is unlocked).
Another small annoyance is that the phone sometimes has a delay of up to 5 seconds when switching on the display. However, since I can't 100% rule out that a third-party app is partly responsible, I don't want to include this in the rating.

SAGENHAFT good headphones, which come very close to the 200.- expensive B&W C5!
- Good price performance
- cool design
- Holds well in the hand
- Easy to operate
I have had the device for a week now and am completely satisfied. I particularly like the picture quality of the camera and the battery performance (lasts a good 1 1/2 days with average use). The resolution of the screen is another plus point. The fear that the smaller edition of the Z1 has made big sacrifices is unfounded.
My only complaint would be that the device scratches easily because the back is made of glass. I also miss the Walkman button that I was used to from Sony (or Sony Ericsson).
Addendum: after a good 2 1/2 years, the battery is on the blink. At about 50% charge, it starts draining to 0% within a few minutes. The battery can be replaced with a little skill (approx. 30-50.-) but I would have expected more.
Really great device!
I switched from the Xperia V to the Xperia Z1 compact and am thrilled. (Device not bought at Digitec).
The battery lasts longer than expected, the graphics of the games look great and the newer UI from Sony has great new extras.
The best thing about the device is that it is not so big. It feels very good in the hand.
I can absolutely recommend the device. What Sony has to offer is really great.
Everything is tip-top. The best smartphone I've had. I use it mainly as a bicycle GPS.

I've had it for 2-3 weeks and I'm very satisfied! There is currently no other mobile phone in this size that has the same performance as the Sony.
+ picture quality
+ Battery life
+ camera
+ Speed
best phone i ever had. battery lasts incredibly long (more than 2 days). fast. everything top. there is probably nothing better (for the money).
Switched from the iPhone 4s about a month ago. The size and LTE were decisive for me. The device just about fits into suit trousers.
I can only agree with the 2 previous reviewers.
Here are my top/flops:
+ fast and good graphics
+ Android is much more configurable than ios
- The display is really bad. It scratches and smears very quickly, even though I treat it carefully, e.g. no other objects in my pocket. Outside, the display is barely legible in the sunshine.
- The keys are stiff and the vibrating alarm does not deserve the name.

Finally, another Android smartphone that doesn't have the dimensions of a mini tablet but still offers the performance of the top devices. For me personally, it could be a bit smaller, but I don't want to complain. Only the weight is a little high, but the battery actually lasts 5 days during my use! I haven't had one of those since the days of so-called "feature phones" like the SonyEricsson W890i.
It's also nice that Sony has adapted the Android interface only very subtly and quite sensibly - compared to Samsung or HTC devices.
I find the camera quite good, a "real" camera cannot replace a smartphone camera. Yes, when it's dark, there's a lot of noise in the pictures, but I don't take pictures in the dark anyway. In daylight - no matter how bad the weather is - the camera takes good pictures.
By the way, the image stabiliser in the video function is really, really good - I've never seen anything like it, it's just brilliant.

The often criticised camera is actually not bad. However, Sony advertises very strongly with the camera and the associated apps. These have convinced me for a "smartphone camera", but nothing more. I still prefer to use my Canon... A smartphone doesn't have to serve as a photo camera replacement, at least not in my opinion. Otherwise top!

Super high-end device!
+Speed thanks to Quadcore
+Sony's Android interface (in the latest update)
+Microphone for making calls and earpiece
+Speakers are very clear for mobile phone
Only con: camera, the camera has 20 MP, but the many pixels cause many pixel errors. There is also image noise when zooming in.
On the other hand, the camera has the cool gadget "AR effect", where you can, for example, put yourself in a dwarf world or have great masks put on.
That's why the overall rating is ***** stars.
I'm grateful to Sony that the z1 is called Compact and not mini, because it really is the compact version, not the worse.
And the colour yellow is awesome! It just looks great.
So if you're thinking about buying it, buy it.
(as always, it's cheapest at digitec) :)

Top top top! I've had a few smartphones in the last two years, but this one is really great in the compact class!
Working speed at nexus 5 (iphone 5s) level or even better!
Battery at least since 4.4.2 on Note 3 level.
Display also very good for a lcd, although not always easy to read in sunlight.
However, I would recommend the white version and only because of the camera. Because when flashing in the dark, a clear yellow haze is visible. Too bad.
Bravo sony! Hope there are more phones from you in this quality!

Fantastic appliance!
Pros:
- Size
- Design (looks great)
- Expandable memory
- performance
- Battery life (approx. 2 days with medium to high usage)
- Workmanship and materials (aluminium & glass?
- waterproof
- Camera (if you know how to set it up properly)
- Support from Sony very fast and good
- Xperia Transfer (allows you to transfer data from a USB stick directly to the device (via the supplied cable))
Contra:
- Factory display film (is softer than glass and scratches very quickly)
- Auto mode of the camera (makes the quality really bad)
Conclusion:
A top device at a fair price. It makes an extremely stable and high-quality impression. A small tip about the camera: The Sony only shoots at 5-8MP in automatic mode, for the full 20.7MP you have to switch to manual mode and select the resolution. Once this is done, it's just awesome, only weakening in low light. The timeshift burst mode is also ingenious.
I can recommend the device to everyone.
