Sony Xperia Z1

What can I say ... it's a real gem. My husband already owns the Xperia Z and it's great. So I really wanted the successor, the Xperia Z1. It looks really classy and is also super fast. Sony has really caught up in the last few years and they are getting better and better. Everyone already owns Apple and Samsung. It's just boring. I am completely satisfied with my Xperia Z1. Its a Sony !!!
Absolutely fantastic smartphone - I previously had a Nexus 5 with 16gb and first considered switching to the 32gb variant because 16 was too little. But then I decided on the Z1 because the camera on the N5 isn't much good and the battery barely lasts half a day with heavy use.
Conclusion: I am extremely satisfied with the Z1. What an absolutely g****s smartphone! Extremely well built, beautiful display (with slight deficiencies in the viewing angle, but doesn't really bother in operation), extremely good camera (only the Superior Auto mode should not be used, as an overly acting software messes up the pictures), insanely fast and smooth. Only minimal adjustments to Android. Installed the GEL launcher, now there is no difference to the N5 except that the phone is much nicer :-)
I now have it as the successor to my Xperia Z. What can you say. The upgrade was worth it. As I said, much more than an upgrade, which will really be worth it for a minority of end users.
Here I'll take the liberty of making a small comparison between the two, whereby the Z also received 5 stars from me.
Pro Xperia Z:
-lighter weight
-smaller size
-cheaper
-better cameraAPP (maximum resolution also available in automatic mode, greater customisability)
-pre-installed, really good navigation software (wisepilot)
Pro Xperia Z1:
-Much better camera especially low-light stronger
-Better display
-Fits better in the hand despite more mass
-Good improved volume and Walkman app
-Super software additions for photo editing on the go.
-Sensibly enhanced Sony UI.
-(significantly longer battery life)
-(Dedicated camera button)
I put the last two points in brackets because not everyone necessarily needs this, but if you're outdoors a lot like I am, which the IP certification makes obvious, you'll notice it. However, if you always have a power socket at hand, you don't need it.
Advantages of both:
-Very fast devices
-Top workmanship
-Waterproof and dustproof
-Good to very good cameras
-Well priced
-Very elegant
-expandable memory.
-android 4.3 update in December
I was satisfied with my Sony Xperia Z1. Camera is good.
The phone was defective after 8 days. Due to a small crack in the display, which was caused by a key, the display no longer reacts. The phone is now unusable.
According to Digitec, this is not a warranty case, but they have not even looked at the phone.
Not so happy with the Z1
- Camera image quality very poor
- Display already has a film on it from the factory, as the film is softer than the actual glass, it unfortunately scratches much faster.
- Possibility to move certain apps to the microSD as with the Galaxy is not possible with the Sony, which I find stupid with so little internal memory 16gb.
- WIFI reception is also not the best, where my old iphone has full reception, the Z1 has just 1 line.
But the build quality is TOP, at least that...
That's just my personal opinion, I'm a bit too picky about such things ;-)
Absolute buy recommendation!
It's clearly the best smartphone at the moment.
Fast, fluid operation thanks to Quad Core & 2GB RAM
simple "naked" Android (update to 4.3 immediately possible)
Top design, top workmanship Top battery life, SIP capable
Thumbs up ... clearly 5 stars
Why the Z1? Soon the only new smartphone with a built-in radio, keep it up!
Otherwise also very satisfied, e.g. camera, battery life.
I've been using the phone for a good month now. Predecessor: Xperia S, so already "Sony-infested" ;)
In advance: I am very satisfied with the phone, 100% recommendation to buy. The biggest minus is the price - I paid a good CHF 740 including the 32GB card. But well, hopefully it will last a while.
I am satisfied with the camera, only the sharpness is important to me. For landscape photos, twilight photos, etc., there are real cameras, but I'm also satisfied with the quality of the Z1 (a mobile phone camera doesn't necessarily have to meet these criteria for me). The earpiece for making calls is very good and loud, finally a mobile phone with which you can also make calls at the Olma ;)
The build quality is "top notch", i.e. 1A. The aluminium casing feels very valuable, the glass on the back is a little slippery (e.g. if you put it on your trousers while sitting, it slides down) on various surfaces, but in your hands it's almost as grippy as rubber.j
The screen is also 1A, no objections whatsoever. The Android 4.2.2 with the Sony interface is good, the phone runs very fast. Battery life is noticeably better than that of the Xperia S, I can last about 1.5 days with heavy use (computer scientist).
Excellent phone!
Battery life 5/5 :
There are a few settings to make the battery last up to 3 days (!), with such a screen, that's impressive!
- In Settings/Wi-Fi/Advanced options,
1) Network notification: disabled
2) Wi-Fi active in Standby: Always
3) Wi-Fi Optimization: On
4) Auto IP support: enabled
Even with auto-sych of Whatsapp, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc... you will last at least 2 days (depending on the games you use)
Photos 4/5 :
The "Automatic" mode is awful! The only optimal situation is outdoors with bright sunshine!
BUT if you switch to manual mode, playing with the ISO, you will get pictures never seen before on a smartphone! So the camera is very good, but you have to know how to use it. Hopefully, with the Android 4.4 update (which should arrive by March), Sony will optimize its automatic mode a bit...
Overlay 5/5 :
The software overlay is very discreet and we're probably looking at a smartphone with the closest experience to a Nexus, without the battery life and photo problems ;-)
Sony services ?/5 :
No idea, I don't use them.
i had an iphone, but decided to change because of the bad reception, with the sony z1 i have 3 bars reception where i live with iphone 1-0
am thrilled super mobile phone, absolutely quick to get used to,apple is already very retarded, digitec has also adjusted the price itself,
still looking forward to the doc station and the smartwatch.
digitec 6 stars not 5
I am thrilled. Super design, very classy finish, great display. Even as an ex-Apple customer, I was impressed by the speed and menu navigation of the Z1. A clear buy recommendation!

The Sony Xperia Z1 is a very good mobile phone:
The Sony UI is very well thought out and has great features.
The build quality is top notch.
The display brings the colours across very well.
Strong viewing angles.
Photos in a lot of light are really very good.
Unfortunately, the photo shutter button is a little poorly made and badly placed, no matter how you hold the phone in your hands, you can always get to this button.
My first Xperia Z1 had a black stripe in the middle of the screen, but Digitec replaced it without any problems.
Hammer device! Can't rule out anything about it! Perfect workmanship and simple but very elegant design!
@thomafevad this error you mention here doesn't really have much to do with Sony but is Android-related. I've seen the same thing with most Samsung phones from the Galaxy series and it can also happen with HTC phones. In addition, this problem can be solved on some devices with a soft or hard reset, so there is no reason to put the Sony brand at risk.
I am very satisfied with my Xperia Z1.
I particularly like Sony's design and choice of materials, this device just looks super classy!
The display delivers razor-sharp images and the colours look very natural (definitely better than on my Galaxy Note 2). The viewing angle stability, which is often criticised, has not really bothered me so far.
The camera takes really excellent pictures for a smartphone and offers many nice features.
In the benchmark tests, the Z1 is a beast, only just behind the Galaxy Note 3 but clearly faster than the LG G2.
It gets full marks from me, keep it up Sony!!!

@boxer1970
I pre-ordered the device for 799. When I picked it up at the shop, I saw it for 699. I then brought up the price and lo and behold I only paid 699.-! Top service from digitec! If I were you, I would contact them as soon as possible.
The device itself is simply brilliant!
I bought it 4 months ago. The phone is great in terms of performance, camera and graphics. But for some inexplicable reason, the display broke. The answer from the service centre was that there is no guarantee for broken glass. What's more, it costs 50 francs for them to look at it and say it's not covered by the guarantee. Repair costs 394.- Fr.
So if, take out the insurance !!!!
Otherwise, really top device. Battery life is up to three days in Stamina mode. Really commendable compared to other smartphones.
In the meantime, I unfortunately had to realise that the Xperia Z1 has exactly the same flaw as my old Xperia Z. The screen of the Z1 also remains black. Only the backlight lights up. Really weak of Sony not to get the error under control in 2 models !!!!
I will now return the Z1 and never buy Sony again.
I have been using the Xperia Z1 daily and often for a few weeks now. To say it in advance - I am more than thrilled.
I quickly got used to handling this large 5-inch device. And it's just the right size to carry around in your pocket. The Z1 feels great in the hand, never seems edgy or unwieldy and is easy to use. Aluminium all around and glass front and back - that's really great! The really good-sounding internal speaker is conveniently located on the underside. Many phones have the speaker on the back, which is rather impractical.
The software is, as usual, top class. Android 4.4, nothing jerks, everything runs smoothly, Sony's user interface is flawless.
The display is so sharp that you really can't see any pixels now.
The camera is also an absolute hit for me. In good light and outdoors, it takes such good pictures that you can even watch them pixel-free on the big TV. With an MHL adapter, the Z1 can be connected to any TV via an Hdmi cable. The extra camera button was another great selling point for me.
Of course, the internet is fast and I have no other wishes. Whether you're playing games or just surfing around - everything fits. Battery life is good, even with the latest Android, and no complaints even with heavy use. The water resistance is great. You have to be careful not to open the small covers too often and damage the tiny rubber seals. I therefore charge with the docking station via the magnetic connection.

Super device
Long battery life thanks to Stamina mode
The design is very beautiful and the workmanship is excellent.
Sony's own functions are very helpful.
Camera is good, but the 20 MP does not stand out particularly from other mobile phone cameras.
Unfortunately, the device sometimes has a sag, but this is gone again after 10 seconds.

Very good phone.
Screen quality very good.
Performance very good.
Sony interface very good.
Workmanship very good.
Photo quality very good in good viewing conditions.
However, the size of the device is, in my opinion, at the limit. It is also much heavier than my wife's Son Z.
I recently gave free rein to my displeasure with digitec here, but now I am man enough to report on the positive development. Without my intervention digitec contacted me by e-mail and explained the price development of the Z1 in a friendly way and even refunded me the price difference. Honestly, I would never have expected that and yet it is great to see that for digitec the financial aspect is not decisive but that customer satisfaction is their top priority. I take my hat off and thank digitec AG for this. Of course, I give them 6 stars!
Top device
Has a better camera than Nokia 1020
And is also waterproof.
At the moment just too expensive with 799 on digitec.ch o.O without Dokingstation.
Too bad
Sound:
If you need the device for music or video, please bear in mind that the sound quality is shockingly poor - the speakers sound like they are playing through a tube - so it's lousy. Not at all suitable for listening to the radio, for example!
Unfortunately, that was my first impression of the device. Otherwise it seems to be good.
Not entirely satisfied ... Not to be recommended.
Ergonomy zero ...
