Sonos Connect
Sonos Connect
Caution: Sonos Connect will no longer be supported on the software side from May 2020! Sonos is "kindly" offering a 30% exchange promotion for the purchase of the successor (Sonos Port).
Perfidious: because the Connect is no longer supported, the entire Sonos installation will no longer be provided with software updates, as all devices must run on the same software version!
This product is described by Sonos as "obsolete" and will no longer receive updates from May 2020. This means that all other Sonos speakers in my system will also no longer receive updates. Weak policy from Sonos.
The whole system is simply brilliant!
I used the Sonos Connect to connect my Beosound to the Sonos Bridge. Plug in, plug in, connect - that's it! Simple and yes, ingenious!
I have installed the following components (PC/Windows7):
2 x Sonos PLAY:3 (kitchen/office).
1x Sonos Connect (with Beosound in the living room)
1x Sonos Bridge 100
Easy and quick installation! Plug&Play at its best!
After a short learning curve, iTunes playlists were synchronised with the various devices (Android/iOS/PC)!
The PLAY:3 speaker sound is impressive considering the size! Very satisfied!
The ability to produce different sound sources in the kitchen, living room and office (radio/MP3/playlists etc.) is really brilliant.
The wireless connection (between Sonos Bridge in the office and Sonos PLAY:3) is impressive: there are several walls between the office and the kitchen on two floors and a distance of about 15 metres! No connection interruptions - it just works!
The app handling on Android and iOS is child's play, fast and very reliable!
I am really thrilled in every respect (reliability/handling/sound quality/design/functionality/installation and the granted individuality etc.) and can recommend the well thought-out system with full conviction!
I recently bought a Sonos Play:3 and have now also added the Connect (AKA ZonePlayer 90). Both the initial installation of the Play:3 and the addition of the Connect were fairly straightforward, although I had to dig out an old Windows installation from somewhere (the Android controller, which has just been updated again, could not register the Play:3 and the Windows controller under Wine could not find the Play:3). Once the installation was complete and the music collection was added to the library (via SMB), however, I had no problems running the system in a pure Ubuntu/Android environment. The Windows controller under Wine does have minor display problems from time to time (but Ubuntu is probably partly to blame for this), but I have not found any functional limitations so far.
Installing the Connect hardware is very simple: just connect it optically or coaxially to the receiver, add the network and you're done. The Mutliroom operation with the Play:3 also works perfectly.
I also have great praise for Sonos for the Spotify integration. On the same day that Spotify was activated in Switzerland, the Sonos system could also be connected. Playlists, Starred Tracks and the search worked without any problems. After the recent update, the integration was improved again (Top Tracks, New Releases).
My conclusion: Together with my own music collection on the NAS and a Spotify Premium account, the perfect audio system!

Absolutely ingenious part.
Simple installation, even with a NAS.
Playlists etc. can be created. The operation via APP and PC is perfect.
I would buy it again immediately.....
the sonos is worth its price...
- the installation is very simple
- operation with mobile phone (Android) very simple
- nas quickly recognised
what more could you want...
A good player, there is hardly anything better in terms of sound.
Negative, is the optical, in the time stood still, much too large.
Operation without accessories not possible, except volume and mute.
Operation on the iPad Super.
Excellent streaming client for optimal music enjoyment. Installation is almost too easy to be true and the functionality is almost limitless.
The only drawback is that the maximum library size is limited to 65,000 songs. But even that can be solved with a few tricks.
For me, it's one of the best electronic devices I've ever bought - and I've already tested a few things in terms of streaming.
This is the perfect thing I have been looking for for a long time. Unfortunately, it is a bit expensive, but now I finally have all my music available from one device. The access to the internet radios is also great and the operation via the iPhone works perfectly and is very intuitive. I really recommend it!
No longer up to date. Product has been sold unchanged for over TEN YEARS (formerly under the name ZP90). Standard functions that current SONOS products have are missing. Standby consumption is too high. Device is too big. And finally, a digital audio input is missing.
Only recommended purchase if functionality is absolutely necessary (an old existing loudspeaker / amplifier combination must be operated or analogue input in SONOS world is necessary).

@similuke:
No, you only need the BRIDGE if you don't have a LAN where you want to put the Connects or Play. Some Sonos device must be connected to the LAN, regardless of whether it is a Connect, Play or Bridge. Then the devices establish a wireless mesh among themselves, independent of existing WLANs.
Operation with Galaxy Tab 10.1: Ingenious.
Minus point: Only in white, no device with headphone jack.
bought for expensive money, always problems with connection (unstable). Have now switched to HEOS where with the DENON AVR no Connect-like device is needed at all (already built in). saved a lot of money + nerves.... byebye SONOS welcome HEOS / Denon :)

No surprise, Sonos quality!
The whole SONOS system works is extremely unstable and prone to interference. When it works, it's good, sounds good, and the devices look pretty. But it just keeps crashing, for some inexplicable reason. I've spent a hundred hours since 2013 rebooting the junk, stabilising with extra transmitters and amps, possibly getting there with 100 software updates, but no, all to no avail. SONOS IS TOTALLY INCOMPETENT and technically not mature. Today I am taking the junk to the disposal. I recommend digitec to take the brand out of the assortment, because with this you only piss off your customers. And I strongly advise everyone not to invest even one franc in this unusable crap.

Actually a good product. But you should no longer buy it today in 2020, as it will be replaced by the new "Sonos Port" and will probably soon no longer support any new features.

Sonos has made the decision to make their older products such as the Connect obsolete ending their support for updates as of May. This will in essence render a perfectly good piece of equipment useless, and all my invested money lost. The offer of a 30% discount for replacement Ports is an insult to their clients.
Sonos is great, no doubt about it. I have been a Sonos fan for >10 years and have 2x ZP90 (Connect), 1x ZP120 (Connect:Amp), 1x S5 (Play:5) and 2x Sonos One myself. I give all products 5 out of 5 stars! BUT: the following devices will no longer receive updates from May 2020 and even if only one of these devices is connected to the Sonos network, there will no longer be any updates for any of the devices! What a mess!
Affected devices:
- Sonos ZP80
- Sonos ZP90 aka Connect (manufactured 2011-2015)
- Sonos ZP100
- Sonos ZP120 aka Connect:Amp (2011-2015 manufactured)
- Sonos ZP S5 aka Play:5 Gen. 1
- Sonos CR200 Remote Control
- Sonos Bridge
- Sonos Play:3

Do not buy anymore, no longer supported by Sonos as of May 2020!
I will keep mine until Sonos kills the streaming functionality on it and I can throw it away, although the hardware would still work great. Forced obsolescence, thank you Sonos. This is what sustainability looks like!
Very good, it allows me to play the sound of my TV in my sound system

cannot be used directly as a receiver for airplay, only via sonos app. app is slow and unreliable (volume setting).

Actually a very good product, but the fact that you can only integrate music on a NAS via SMBv1 is a no-go from a security point of view.
Extremely easy to set up! Everything worked right from the start!

A good way to connect the home cinema system with the Sonos system.
Unfortunately, the time delay of the receiver in relation to the other Sonos boxes cannot be remedied (e.g. set delay for the Play ...). It needs a delay-free input "through" the receiver. This leaves me with pure 2 channel stereo, no 5.1 or 7.1.

I wanted to connect more devices to SONOS. Unfortunately, this was not possible. So I had to buy an additional device (ONKYO)!
A good addition to the existing Sonos network to integrate analogue devices

I bought this device to continue using my old receiver with high-quality speakers. It works as hoped and I would buy it again at any time.

With two Sonos CONNECT devices, I was able to turn two existing stereo systems, including record players, into two music streaming machines.
It is possible to play different songs in different rooms at the same time. Or play a song in perfect sync throughout the entire flat. The setup is intuitive and works very well with the help of 'SonosDesktopController' for Windows or Mac. An app for smartphones is also a good extension to control the various Sonos devices.
The possibilities of Sonos Connect in combination with Sonos Boost for a stable and high quality stability of the audio streams is almost inexhaustible.

All my CDs in every room!
