Sonos Connect
Sonos Connect
Caution: Sonos Connect will no longer be supported on the software side from May 2020! Sonos is "kindly" offering a 30% exchange promotion for the purchase of the successor (Sonos Port).
Perfidious: because the Connect is no longer supported, the entire Sonos installation will no longer be provided with software updates, as all devices must run on the same software version!
This product is described by Sonos as "obsolete" and will no longer receive updates from May 2020. This means that all other Sonos speakers in my system will also no longer receive updates. Weak policy from Sonos.
The whole system is simply brilliant!
I used the Sonos Connect to connect my Beosound to the Sonos Bridge. Plug in, plug in, connect - that's it! Simple and yes, ingenious!
I have installed the following components (PC/Windows7):
2 x Sonos PLAY:3 (kitchen/office).
1x Sonos Connect (with Beosound in the living room)
1x Sonos Bridge 100
Easy and quick installation! Plug&Play at its best!
After a short learning curve, iTunes playlists were synchronised with the various devices (Android/iOS/PC)!
The PLAY:3 speaker sound is impressive considering the size! Very satisfied!
The ability to produce different sound sources in the kitchen, living room and office (radio/MP3/playlists etc.) is really brilliant.
The wireless connection (between Sonos Bridge in the office and Sonos PLAY:3) is impressive: there are several walls between the office and the kitchen on two floors and a distance of about 15 metres! No connection interruptions - it just works!
The app handling on Android and iOS is child's play, fast and very reliable!
I am really thrilled in every respect (reliability/handling/sound quality/design/functionality/installation and the granted individuality etc.) and can recommend the well thought-out system with full conviction!
I recently bought a Sonos Play:3 and have now also added the Connect (AKA ZonePlayer 90). Both the initial installation of the Play:3 and the addition of the Connect were fairly straightforward, although I had to dig out an old Windows installation from somewhere (the Android controller, which has just been updated again, could not register the Play:3 and the Windows controller under Wine could not find the Play:3). Once the installation was complete and the music collection was added to the library (via SMB), however, I had no problems running the system in a pure Ubuntu/Android environment. The Windows controller under Wine does have minor display problems from time to time (but Ubuntu is probably partly to blame for this), but I have not found any functional limitations so far.
Installing the Connect hardware is very simple: just connect it optically or coaxially to the receiver, add the network and you're done. The Mutliroom operation with the Play:3 also works perfectly.
I also have great praise for Sonos for the Spotify integration. On the same day that Spotify was activated in Switzerland, the Sonos system could also be connected. Playlists, Starred Tracks and the search worked without any problems. After the recent update, the integration was improved again (Top Tracks, New Releases).
My conclusion: Together with my own music collection on the NAS and a Spotify Premium account, the perfect audio system!
