Onkyo TX-NR696
7.2 channels, FM, AM
My previous model TX-NR626 was already a great device but the Nr696 has even more great features. Noticeably improved, of course, the network use with their apps and the Wifi speed. Chromecast-perfect, Tune In radio as usual and for me very besoders useful Amazon Music.THX Music/Movie mode sounds perfect, I had to fine-tune anything more. Menu navigation and settings as usual from Onkyo - simple. The power of the amplifier is more than sufficient - makes my Teufel system sweat :)

Great amp, power and quality!
In itself a good device.
+ Easy handling of the sources
+ Description agrees with performance as far as I could see that
- I had already 2-3x, that the picture on the TV remained black although the right source was selected. Here are probably synchronization problems zw. the different devices the problem (HDCP negotiate). After everything was switched off and on again, it ran again.
- bad handling of all digital stuff (button NET) wi TuneIn (internet radio,).
- no DAB
- At the ease of use (especially for older people) manufacturers could do more.
following possibly due to Digitec:
- Power cable was EU instead of CH
- Manual on paper was in polish.
WoW Top

Good amp, good connectivity, excellent acoustic adjustment with the integrated microphone, on-screen display of the parameters (unlike an older model I had), shortcut keys on the remote control that we could not find before and that forced us to go into the system menu.

Good and clear sound. More than enough power for my Teufel system. Good and clear menu.
Bluetooth etc. work perfectly for me.
So far actually good, it has only one hacken (the sound) !
For the sound I bought a soundbar Sony HT-X8500. I assumed that I will operate the soundbar via the AV receiver, so that I can also take the sound of the record player via the soundbar.
That was probably a mistake, the Onkyo tx-nr696 is not to blame.
Ev. I still buy 2 music boxes to operate the record player.
Disappointing. Many people say good things about Onkyo products but for my part for a first purchase I am disappointed. The sound is weird. The menu when it works is well done but otherwise it was stuck on its load several times. Reset the product 3x and the problem reappeared each time. Product sent back. I reinstalled my Yamaha amp which in the end was fine.
After Onkyo No. 1 took a good 6 years to start acting up, it was able to upgrade just after the warranty period had expired with quirks and hiccups. A good 1/2 year later: it no longer works (cable tested -> e.g. directly to Swisscom box and other HDMI cables tested -> it is the TV output that only transmits audio but no picture) -> poor Onkyo quality

Until now, I always had top devices from Denon. Unfortunately, these were defective after a few years, which moved me to switch to another brand. I believe and hope that Onkyo can do this for longer ;) Otherwise I will report here.

Manufacturer year 2019
Long sought after. Clearly the best on the market at this price when benchmarked.
Surprisingly many buttons and knobs directly on the AVR!
THX - Modes is only something for the sharp ...

maybe it's me who's not capable, but the various Bluetooth connections, mire cast, etc... is only for audio, no video or image.
and compared to my old onkyo that I had, it had few options and technology... but it had one thing that I consider almost indispensable is the Audyssey Dynamic EQ...
All in all, the rest looks good

Only the missing Swiss Strohmkabel and that no German manual was there has disturbed me.
Super sound together with my Teufel speakers
Seen it, bought it, connected it and it works with the new Teufel speakers.
Very good AVR with many connection options and good sound transmission. Films, music, etc. can be set with presets and the presets themselves can also be customised. The AVR also recognises which presets it should use (but not always). Setup is very simple and is well described on the screen. However, there are already problems with the WLAN connection during setup, so I had to switch to LAN. If you want to use Bluetooth or Airplay, there can also be connection problems (connected to AVR, but no sound comes out, etc.). In most cases, unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in helps, but by the time I found this solution, the frustration was already very high. But once the AVR is up and running, it's great.

All in all, a solid device. It would be even better with Android OS.

When the device works, it is top. Only it often does not work - especially the AirPlay connection to the iPhone is often and spontaneously interrupted and is then not re-establishable for a long time.

After 3 days of use, impossible to connect to WiFi. Scanning the network, the device does not find any WiFi network !
Restart the box just in case... nothing changes.
Only solution: factory reset the amp, and WiFi works again (for how long!!???) and then re-enter all settings, passwords, equalizers, radio presets, etc.
I did it once, I won't do it every 3 days or even a second time!
If this happens, the device will go back to Digitec (super convenient!!!) or will end up in the recycling.
