When this device was announced I knew it would end up with me as I had been looking for a handy device with good performance for a long time. iPhone 12 Mini I didn't want as I'm not an iPhone fan although they are very good devices too.
Had the Zenfone 6 before and when that gave up the ghost a Motorola G8 Power. But both were too big for me. On top of that, the Motorola has poor wifi performance.
The Zenfone 8 is 95 percent one-handed operation (Depending on the size of your hands).
Unfortunately, no card slot, which is why I went with the 256GB version.
Quality of photos has surprised me, but so far only in daylight.
I always say if I want good photos I'll take the RX100, but with the Zenfone I'll probably go without more often.
Image composition and flow very smooth.
Charges quickly.
Has face detection, which is not in Digitec's specs.
Pleasant weight.
Absolutely recommendable at the moment.
Addendum
After the phone is now for two weeks with me in operation and some trial and error betr. battery life I have adjusted the following settings and thereby almost doubled the runtime.
5G turned off. I do not need in everyday life, because 4G is fast enough. When using it as a hotspot, I turn it back on.
Fingerprint scanner turned off: Since I carry the phone in my pocket and don't have a cover on the protector, it keeps trying to scan the fingerprint. Why I do not know.
System modes Ultra-sustainable selected (without background sync restriction and dark color scheme).
Runs everything smoothly with these settings as I don't do any big games etc.
And therefore another buy recommendation

First to the battery life and for me an important criterion: After I read some negative posts about it, my expectations were not too high. But as a little user (per day about 2h on-screen time and 1h music) you manage two days with the setting "dynamic" (flight mode overnight). With "permanent" or "ulta-haltbar" is even more in it.
128 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM are completely sufficient. The performance is very good, as is the workmanship. I have not yet tested the camera extensively. However, I am satisfied with the pictures taken so far.
Only the posts on the net about "ramdump" detract from the otherwise very good overall impression. In the official ASUS forum ZenTalk, users report again and again that their Zenfone 8 has suddenly given up the ghost. The repair (supposedly a replacement of the motherboard) is currently the only solution to this problem. You can only hope that it does not catch you - and as a tip: When buying the "Express Exchange Service" from Digitec and always make nice backups.
