Yes, the unit comes with a bracket that fits directly to the front of a 3.5in drive. To use a 2.5in drive you would need an adapter plate.
According to the manufacturer, the maximum capacity per hard drive/slot is 6 TB.
I don't know that directly. I use 2 of them with up to 8tb discs for storage spaces. Runs perfectly
