The concept of smart homes not only offers new possibilities for interactively using various media or devices but also makes life more comfortable and secure, while helping to save on energy costs. A prerequisite is always the networking of different devices with each other or with the internet. The RJ-45 connection (Ethernet) plays an increasingly important role in this. It is no longer reserved solely for computers but is being used by more and more devices, whether it's a television, gaming console, or washing machine. Thus, the Ethernet network represents a future-oriented infrastructure solution. This trend has been addressed by a newly created standard. EN 50173-4 describes the proper installation of application-neutral communication cabling systems in residential buildings. Such an infrastructure, referred to in technical terms as structured cabling, guarantees maximum data rates with minimal susceptibility to interference, thus providing an advantage over conventional application-specific cabling.
