Hi, Is it possible to add a filter showing if a laptop has soldered/unsoldered/combined RAM configuration? Lack of that information is the reason I am not going to buy a new laptop. I already got trapped once in the past into buying a laptop which had half of it's memory soldered. When I was buying it I saw in the description that there is a memory slot, so I assumed this is where all of the memory is installed. I will be buying a new laptop in the next few months and have almost certainly decided in favour of a Dell device with Ubuntu. Strangely, as far as I can see, no-one sells these machines except Dell directly, not even digitec. Does anyone know the reason? Digitec/Galaxus also have other things in their range that don't sell in huge quantities. I find Dell a bit cumbersome with delivery and possible repairs, I would prefer digitec.

I know you can usually install Linux yourself without any problems, I personally have done it on dozens of devices and have been using it exclusively for a long time. However, there are many people who would like to escape the clutches of Microsoft/Apple, or are dissatisfied with their operating system for other reasons, but for them a change is out of the question because a) the installation would be too complicated for them. b) they want to be sure that it works. c) they do not even know about this alternative. To counteract this, it is necessary to be able to buy devices with Linux already pre-installed. I have helped many people switch to Linux, people without any technical skills. And most of them are very satisfied. Not everyone needs compatibility with all software. For many, a browser and (Libre)Office and File Explorer are enough. In such a case, Windows is not the right choice. You can do a lot of things wrong, e.g. when installing software. Updates/pop-ups etc. just get in the way and when the boot process takes five times as long after two years and everything else has become slow, you buy a new device. The price for Windows, MS Office, antivirus etc. is not justified in such a case. This is not just my personal opinion, these are experiences that other (ex-)Windows users have told me. Once Linux is installed and working, almost no 'maintenance work' is necessary. I know there are ChromeBooks, but they almost limit you too much. Then there's the fact that you're switching from Microsoft's environment to Google's, where - unlike with smartphones - you could still retain your digital freedom relatively easily. One should have more freedom in the choice of operating system and software. After all, we are feie/independent Swiss, and that should also apply to our digital lives.

Hi all, the specifications for Lenovo's "LOQ 17IRX10" model indicate 1 TB max per M.2 slot (PCIe NVMe, PCIe 4.0 x4). I'm not entirely sure if you mean the maximum offered as an option or if it's an actual limit imposed by the motherboard/BIOS. I doubt 1TB is really the limit, but before I go ahead and purchase, I'd like to make sure I can expand to 2xSSDs of 4TB each. Does anyone have any reliable information on this? Thank you very much.

I ordered a Lenovo laptop a few months ago. Unfortunately, the keyboard was defective, so I had to send the device in for repair. After about two months, I never received the laptop back. I was refunded the purchase price, but not the additional guarantee I had paid for. I paid for both the laptop and the warranty, but only received a partial refund. Very disappointing and frustrating. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the service and hope that Lenovo will finally resolve the issue with the warranty refund.

All my main work will be done on my AMD Windows desktop workstation. My usage: 1- Tethered semi-pro photo shoots using Capture One Pro/Lightroom 2- Graphic design & 3D (mainly will be done on my desktop). 3- Travel photos, backup and light editing. 4- Usual web browsing, office stuff. Hello together I'm looking for a notebook with a Windows 11 operating system for my industrial engineering degree. As I only use Apple devices in my private life, I'm reaching my limits when it comes to choosing from the many devices with a Windows operating system - especially when it comes to the different processors (AMD, Intel, etc...). Basically, I'm looking for a laptop that will be a reliable companion for the next three years. My budget is around 700-1000 CHF. The minimum requirements are 16 GB RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The brand doesn't matter. It would be nice if the device could run basic programmes smoothly - in the worst case, it should also be able to display a small assembly in a CAD programme. I don't need a touch function or a flip-down display. Can anyone recommend a notebook with these criteria or share their own experiences? Or is there "the" unbeatable price-performance notebook that costs just over CHF 1000? If it is really worth it, I would also be prepared to adjust my budget accordingly.
